The 82^nd General Meeting of the European Council of Civil Engineers (ECCE), held in Braga, Portugal, marked a significant milestone in the organisation's evolution with the adoption and launch of a comprehensive governance modernisation programme.

Recognising the importance of ensuring that ECCE remains an effective, transparent and future-oriented organisation capable of representing the civil engineering profession across Europe, delegates endorsed a series of important governance initiatives that will strengthen the Council's institutional framework and guide its future development.

✅ ECCE Articles of Association (2026)

The General Meeting adopted the revised ECCE Articles of Association, establishing an updated constitutional framework for the organisation.

The revised Articles introduce clearer governance provisions, modernised decision-making procedures and enhanced organisational structures, providing a solid foundation for ECCE's future growth while reflecting the evolving needs of the organisation and its members.

✅ ECCE Code of Professional Conduct (2026)

Delegates also adopted the new ECCE Code of Professional Conduct, defining the ethical principles and professional standards expected of all those representing ECCE. The Code promotes integrity, professionalism, transparency, equality, sustainability and responsibility, reaffirming the Council's commitment to serving society through ethical civil engineering practice.

🔄 Governance Roadmap and Bylaws

Alongside these adopted documents, members participated in an interactive Governance Roadmap Workshop, where the first consolidated draft of the new ECCE Bylaws was presented and discussed.

The workshop enabled delegates to exchange views, provide detailed feedback and help shape the next phase of ECCE's governance reform. The Bylaws will complement the Articles of Association by providing practical procedures governing the organisation's day-to-day operations and internal processes.

The consultation remains ongoing as the Governance Working Group continues refining the document in close collaboration with ECCE members.
