10th CECPC-CICPC meeting

14-15 March 2019, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Civil engineers from 15 countries (Brazil, Angola, Argentina, Bolivia, Cape Verde, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba, Spain, Guatemala, Mozambique, Paraguay, Portugal, Uruguay and Mexico) met in Rio de Janeiro for the 10th Council Meeting of the Professional Associations of Civil Engineers of the Portuguese and Spanish Countries (CECPC), on March 14 and 15, 2019. In a meeting marked by the voluntary suspension of the mandate of the Bastonary of the Order of Engineers of Portugal, Carlos Mineiro Aires, in favor of Juan Antonio Santamera, President of the College of Engineering of Roads, Channels and Ports, and also around the debate on professional mobility , the 10th Meeting of the Council of Professional Associations of Civil Engineers of the Portuguese and Spanish Countries took place in Rio de Janeiro. Alongside the professional training, which was attended by Federal Councilor Osmar Barros Jr., of CONFEA, the theme will be discussed throughout the year in formal groups defined during the meeting. "We want to understand the differences between each one of us so that we can then have a common denominator, obeying the laws of each country," said OEP Vice-President Fernando Santos. For the Bastonary, the suspension of his mandate, during a period of one year, was of consensual form, following the statute of the organization. "It was a kindness that I did, following John's personal request in his last year in office. He deserves to occupy this role." to which Juan, thanking the availability, expressed his intention to establish the Civil Engineering scenario of the participating countries and to promote the professional exchange, in terms of the Term of Reciprocity, signing between CONFEA and the EPO. "It is possible that Spain and CONFEA will promote a similar agreement. We have 26,000 civil engineers, while Brazil has 350,000. And that's interesting for everyone."

During the meeting the Declaration of Rio de Janeiro "In defense of the future" was signed.
