The Institution

The Colegio de Ingenieros de Caminos, Canales y Puertos (CICCP) is the professional body that represents Spain's civil engineers with a Master's degree in Civil Engineering. Founded in 1951, it is a public law corporation with mandatory membership for those who wish to practice the regulated profession of "Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos" in Spain.
Its mission includes the defense of the profession and its members, the promotion of excellence and ethical standards in engineering, and the protection of society in relation to the professional services provided by its members.

Membership and Structure

CICCP gathers over 25,000 members and is structured into 18 regional branches across Spain and several international representatives. It has a governing national council and professional committees addressing key areas such as international affairs, public procurement, innovation, and sustainability.

Professional Scope

The title of "Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos" is legally protected and requires a five- or six-year Master's level university degree, recognized by the Spanish government. CICCP members are qualified to undertake planning, design, construction, operation, and management of civil infrastructure, including transport, water, environmental, structural, and geotechnical works. The professional scope also extends to consultancy, project management, and research.

Activities

CICCP is actively involved in shaping public policy and legislation related to civil engineering, infrastructure, and sustainability. It also provides services to members including continuous professional development, professional careers, mediation and arbitration, legal advice, support for international mobility, and certification of professional experience and competence.

International Role

The CICCP promotes international collaboration and represents the Spanish civil engineering profession in global forums. It issues certificates for international recognition and participates in European and international engineering organizations, including ECCE.
